In October 2025, I rebuilt this sculpture by closing in the gardens as depicted below. I liked the photograph above and kept it.
In the center of my sculpture, Light Becomes Matter, a large, white quartz boulder with a micaceous face shimmers in sunlight. In his book, Dreams of a Final Theory, Nobel Prize-winning physicist Steven Weinberg recounts physicists watching electrons of atoms absorb photons through a process called photoexcitation. Basically, when photons, or particles of light, are absorbed by electrons within an atomic structure, light becomes matter. The concept made a deep impression and changed my perception of our world, although Steven Weinberg did not describe the process in the astounding simplicity of my explanation which could inspire spiritual connotations.
